Dr.
Ward earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of
California at Davis in 1971. After graduation, he enrolled in the Ph.D.
program in the Department of Parasitlogy and Laboratory Practice, part
of the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. While the Ph.D. program was interesting, Dr. Ward decided that
private practice was a more satisfying career path. In 1975, he entered
private practice with the establishment of The Animal Hospital of Carrboro.
The practice treats the usual companion animals. However, Dr. Ward and
his two associate DVMs are also interested in exotic species including
birds, small mammals, and reptiles.
Dr. Ward's particular
interests are feline hyperthyroidism, soft tissue surgery, and exotic
medicine and surgery. He is an adjunct professor in the Companion Animals
and Special Species Department at the College of Veterinary Medicine
Teaching Hospital, North Carolina State University, where he mentors
senior students on clinical rotation in the primary care of exotic mammals
and reptiles.
Dr. Ward is a Past
President of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, and
a Past President of the Triangle Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Ward and his
wife, Beth, share a charming 100-year old farmhouse with their cats
Lili, Reilly, and Rosie. As often as time allows, they enjoy sailing
and scuba diving in the Caribbean.
